Read the job description below for yourself. Then, contact a private audiology practice. Audiologists study hearing disorders and their treatment for 4 โ€“ 5 years after their bachelorโ€™s degree. Since most hearing aid salesman jobs are commission based, hearing aid prices are typically LESS EXPENSIVE at an independently owned audiology practice. In addition to 8+ years university study, audiologists are unlikely to utilize hotel, wine, or computer sales skills when selecting, programming and maintaining your hearing aids. If youโ€™ve received your hearing aids from a salesman (or an audiologist), it is important to know you have a legal right to return your hearing aids for a refund within 30 days of purchase.

Note: If you are hired as an apprentice or tech you are not allowed to work with patients doing anything until you pass the state issued test and receive a dispensing license. The same license an audiologist must obtain.

Smitten's comments are not a rant. It's a quotation taken directly from a Beltone job advertisement.

BTW, most states do not require audiologists to take the VERY BASIC, BEGINNERS HEARING AID "SPECIALIST" TEST because it's simply a waste of the audiologist's time (i.e., 1st semester of the 1st year introductory level, most basic information). State's really need to raise the testing standards much, much higher to minimize damage done by incompetent Beltone (and Miracle Ear) salesmen with their lack of clinical skills, lack of disease prevention/control training, and commission based (i.e., predatory) sales practices. I've been listening to Beltone and Miracle Ear horror stories from patients for 20 years. I also have the training and tools to measure their work...

which is junk... their aids simultaneously overamplify some sounds and underamplify other sounds. If your hearing is bad enough, even a junk aid sounds pretty good. State Attorney Generals really need to investigate Beltone and Miracle Ear for public health and safety violations.

Neither Beltone or Miracle Ear are even legitimate hearing aid manufacturers. Beltone gets "last years" parts from Resound, while Miracle Ear gets "last years" parts from Siemens.

Then, they assemble those parts in their own assembly plants with very poor quality control. If I didn't see (and measure) this disgusting phenomena at least once every week, I wouldn't believe it myself:(

It's a amazing that in that entire rant, he failed to mention that in order to fit hearing aids, an individual will be required to take a pass a state license exam, which is the same license exam that an audiologist is required to take. The only person that can legally test hearing and fit hearing aids must be licensed and regulated by the state that they reside and practice in.

You don't even need a high school diploma to fit Beltone hearing aids? That's sad!

What if your optometrist or orthodontist wasn't required to have any degree in anything? Mr.

Beltone guy, you won't be touching anyone in my family or circle of friends.
